Hey, I love working out! What’s not to love about the high from cardio, the strength from weight work or the comraderie from the friends you make at the gym. A friend of mine calls her gym friends “sweat siblings.” Love it, April! But, nobody transforms their body or loses weight without dietary interventions. Truth. Look, you do have to move the body you have but you don’t have to be a slave to the gym. We were meant to be bodies in motion. You know what “they” say, “use it or lose it.”
Finding the balance between working out and nutrition is simple. We are 80% of what we eat. That means that nutrition has an 80% success rate when it comes to weight loss. Exercise is only about 20% of the equation. Fit people in the gym have good diets. Truth, again. Think of exercise as the supplement to a good diet.
So what is the ideal nutrition plan? Low carb? Low fat? Eat often? Eat smaller portions? This is where things get messy. The very best nutrition program is…what works for you! We are all different with different lifestyles and physiological needs. Nutrition is NOT a one-size fits all program. I’ll tell you what doesn’t work: working out without dietary changes.
A nutrition plan needs to fit easily into to your life, like a glove. If it doesn’t fit, you’re going to quit! Putting forth a little effort to nourish your body won’t be a big deal if it’s easy. You need to be satisfied with the food you’re eating. It’s not just about raw veggies and boneless, skinless chicken breasts. Hell no! You need to change your gut flora to stop sugar cravings. Food is information for our DNA. Every time you eat, you’re giving your body good information or bad information. If you want the 80% success rate, then make changes to your diet.
100 burpees or a better meal? Which sounds easier?
It always starts with food.
Eat well today,
Lisa
